[ICOM] IC-736 auto tuner question

It's been a while since I've used this forum, so I'm not sure how to use it.
 
A friend of mine just upgraded to General and has an old IC-736 with an auto tuner in it.  I can't figure out how the tuner works, although I've read the instructions on page 37.  My friend seems to think that, for instance, he is listening on 7.290MHz USB, and decides to go to 14.290MHz to listen, and all he has to do is change the listening frequency and the auto tuner will automatically adjust to 14.290MHz without him having to otherwise touch the radio.  Can some one try to help this OM understand this?  Thanks and 73 - George, N9EJS
