Gary -
Thanks for that info. We were just on the phone/radio making some tests, and it does seem to require a few seconds of a shot of carrier to activate it. We had a another fellow on the phone/radio and he said that when the transmitter first came on it was a little weaker, then in a few seconds the signal came up. We appreciate your help!

George,
The tuner will tune to a memorized preset however it will not tune
properly until it gets a shot of RF power on a large frequency or band
change.
Changing bands like you mention it would be normal for the tuner to tune
while you are talking, maybe even tuning once and tuning again on the
next transmission until its satisfied it has the lowest match possible.
Sometimes its ok to give the tuner a shot of carrier when you change
bands. Just be mindful when you do that others will hear a whistle in
their receivers from the carrier transmitted.
I don't have the IC-736 manual handy but seem to remember holding in the
tuner button will also force the tuner to tune. You have to do that for
6 meter tuner operation as the tuner is not automatic like on HF in the
IC-736.

My friend seems to think that, for instance, he is listening on 7.290MHz USB, and decides to go to 14.290MHz to listen, and all he has to do is change the listening frequency and the auto tuner will automatically adjust to 14.290MHz without him having to otherwise touch the radio. Can some one try to help this OM understand this? Thanks and 73 - George, N9EJS
