[ICOM] Icom 706 mic questions

I am looking at using an Icom 706MKII to interface with another rig for remote operations.  I have a couple of questions about the mic jack for this rig:

1. It is an 8 pin connector.  Is it the same plug/cable as an ethernet cable?

2. The manual says don't hook up a mic to both mic jacks at the same time.  What happens if you do?  Would it damage the rig if they were both activated at the same time (using VOX on both)?
