Jeff,
The problem usually is the current shunt has cracked solder joints
within the 765 internal power supply if the 765 works ok at low power
but fails under full power
Reading your message again I see it must be ok when using an external
power supply.
Do you get 100 watts out on RTTY when using the external power supply?
Repair of the current shunt solder joints is not hard, just get your
electric screw driver warmed up. A nice 25 watt soldering iron, some
decent size of solder wick or a desoldering tool, maybe some liquid
solder flux. I can write up a basic procedure if you need me to.

Look up repair of an Icom PS-35 power supply its the same supply within
the IC-765 except for the case has more cooling fins on the 765 supply.
