[ICOM] IC-765 Power Supply

My IC-765 just turned off one day and I assume it was a failure of the
internal power supply. I see several mentions in the KD4LYH "IC-765
Issues" thread that imply the IC-765 can be operated from an external power
supply. Is this right? Where do I hook the external supply? I see what
appears to be a power connector in the left rear of the box after removing
the cover. If this salvages the rig, I will be most appreciative and will
then look into Gary's fix of the shunt inside the internal supply as a
possible cause of the thing shutting down.

Please be gentle; I am non-techinical.

Many thanks and 73,
Bob W4VQ
