Hi Gary,

Well, I haven't heard back yet from either Scott or Kuni, but feeling
suddenly emboldened here(!), I went ahead & put the new board into the
rig --- in fact, I finished putting back the last screw just about a half an
hour ago, or so...

No idea yet if it works, or not --- I'm gonna save the joy (or, as is
usually the case here, the AGONY! Hi) of the proverbial "...smoke test" for
to-morrow. If it failed on me to-day, I don't think I'd be able to take it,
what with all the work the board change entailed this afternoon
(de-soldering all those IF filters was a real chore)...

I sure do miss using the 751A on CW: a favourite pass time of mine here in
the colder months is chasing DX on 160-meters CW. While the Yaesu FT-980
does the job well enough, I always preferred the performance of the Icom in
that mode...yet the reverse holds true on SSB: the Yaesu seems to have
hands-down audio quality superiority over the 751A, in tests I've run on the
air here...

Maybe it's the microphones...?

In any event, on a somewhat different note, I made a posting here the other
day about the back-up memory battery set-up I employ in my 751A, for when I
replace the lithium memory battery. Having become re-acquainted with its
innards as I did this afternoon, I should like to correct what I said, i.e.
the plastic battery holder is NOT hot-melt glued onto a handy internal
shielding partition, but rather, it is attached to the back of the internal
loudspeaker with a strip of double-sided foam tape.

It's amazing what one forgets when one's rig never breaks down! (at least
not up until now, anyway! Hi Hi).

Will keep everyone posted as to the outcome of the test to-morrow...assuming
anyone is really & truly interested, that is...!
