[ICOM] Icom 746 vs Yaesu FT920

I've had a couple 746s and our club has a Yaesu 920. The 920 is an
impressive looking radio. However, put in an environment of heavy qrm (Field
Day, Sweepstakes, etc.) the receiver is not the greatest. Inrad has a mod
that allows one or two crystal filters to be installed. That should help if
you want to spend the money, but I've not used one, so I couldn't say for
sure. I do think the 920 was a giant step backwards compared to the 990.

John, if the 746 is a Pro, I'm of no help or opinion as I've never owned
one. The early 746, with the ability to use crystal filters would be my
choice over a standard 920 as a contest radio.

CQ WW Phone is not that far away, that would be a good test John.

Has anyone on the list had the chance to compare the
Icom 746 with the yaesu FT920? I am going to have
both for a little while, but will only be able to
afford one, so one of them will have to go. I wonder
especially how they compare under contest conditions.
So far, the Ft920 seems like a pretty good rig loaded
with features.
