Part of the confusion is that the processor was not originally standard - it
was an accessory much like the coveted FM module.
If your radio has the FM module, you can sell it and buy the radio of your
desires, something you can operate and conforms to your idea of how you want
it to work.
BTW - the processor does not work in FM - so you can vary the power without
worry.
