My point was to turn the compression OFF and reduce the mic gain to
control power out with no compression. I've had several 551's over the
years. As a matter of fact I have one in the shack right now that
belongs to a friend who is trying to sell it, so I'm very familiar with
the rig. It's a great 6M rig in my opinion.

Hi Julio:
The RF Power knob is one and the same with the compression
control built in as the knob rotates clockwise. After looking at the
owners manual it appears that with compression off you get full power
out but if you want to run less than full power, the compression must be
turned on. Yes, you could run less mic gain and have the compression on
but I would prefer to set and forget. I don't understand why the
control was implemented in the way it appears to be.
