I think if it was me I would settle for a Icom 735 or I 736 or 737. I had a 735 and I know the receiver is great.

Hi John,
The receiver of IC718 performs very well though it is
only an entry level rig. I did an A/B comparision with
my IC7800. It was not that far out.
IC718 evolves from the commercial version IC78 which
is a marine radio, For marine radio, performance in 2
- 6 Mhz which is the marine band has to be very good.
Therefore, the performance of IC718 in the low bands
is exceptionally good. This information has been
confirmed with ICOM JA.
