Hello Steve and others,
You are fortunate, I think you will find the tuner is an AT-120 not an
AH-120.
The AT series of Icom tuners are the commercial range and are heavier
duty than the AH-series, which are for the amateur market. The circuit
board traces and the relays etc are of a heavier duty rating than the AH
range - which means the power ratings of these tuners are better - able
to handle 100 watts continuous instead of intermittently or peak as in
the case of the AH tuners. Tuning ranges are the same despite what the
information brochures will tell you.
These tuners will match anything within their capability to do so and
provided the transceiver can tell the thing when to tune and provide it
with some RF to tune with. For example, the commercial HF frequencies
don't extend as far as 10 metres so Icom doesn't actually claim the
tuner will work there but in fact it will. Likewise, the transceivers
intended for land mobile or commercial HF won't tell the tuner to work
there as 10 metres is not part of the allocation.
The AH-4 is not claimed to cover 160 metres either but it works there
no problem if it can tune the wire that is connected to it.
So you are in fact better off with the unit you have.
