[ICOM] IC-706MKIIG - It cannot be this difficult

Alan,

Usually its not such a chore to connect up the 706MKIIG for computer
logging. I wonder if DX4Win actually works with the IC-706MKIIG.
Looks like the test program does even it keeps using the wrong CI-V
address for the 706MKIIG as you report. The fact the test program
works tells me the radio is working I am wondering why its reporting
48 for the
CI-V address though. The address of the radio does not matter so long
as both the radio and controlling software CI-V address' Match.
You never got the CT-17 to work? I have lost track, was it an
original Icom CT-17 you have? Was the red light on when you tried it.?

So many available settings try to go for default settings first.

Have you gone into the initial set mode and checked the 706MKIIG settings?
If so what 34 CI-V address is the radio reporting? Set it for what
DX4Win is showing but it should be 58 for the 706MKIIG
What baud rate is it reporting? 35 CI-V Baud Set it for 1200
Is 36 CI-V TRN On? if not turn it on
Is 37 CI-V 731 Off? make sure its off as this is 4 bit data which the
IC-735 only used.

Here is what I recommend. Set the 706MKIIG to default, 1200 baud, TRN
on 731 OFF CI-V address 58
Then start DX4Win and see if it finds the radio or set up the
706MKIIG driver in DX4Win to match what you have the radio set to.
Usually these don't mean much in CI-V, but they do for the program.

>Poll rate (ms): 1000
>Max tries: 3
>DTR high: checked
>RTS high: unchecked

This might be the reason your aftermarket cable is not working. Its
not outputting on the DTR as expected by DX4Win.

I would not mess about with serial ports above Com 1 or 2 until you
get the combination working.
So many programs do not support com ports of a higher number than 1 or 2.
The IRQ's these boards use get in the way many times when using
multiport boards. sounds fishey I know buts its been my experience.
Once you get it working on com 1 or 2 then move it to the serial port
of your choice and wrestle with it if you need to. But you will know
its working.

Most any program that controls an Icom should control the 706MKIIG,
Just match the CI-V address, baud rate and transceive on for starters.
I dislike programs that have many radio settings and no defaults for
starting out. They make things so complicated. Once it working you
can then expand on the controls etc.

Thats about all I can help with, I hope I did.
