Dear Paul,

You didn't specify what mode of transmission: CW, SSB, etc.  60 to 70 watts 
on peaks is about average for most "100 watt" SSB rigs.  There are several 
places on the web that have information on turning up the talk power on the 
706.  Now if you want to boost your average a good bit, I can HIGHLY 
reccomend you get the www.W4RT.com speech porcessor specifically designed to 
fit inside the 706's microphone.  It is much superior to the built in 
compressor.  On DX receive, most stations tell me I am about 2 S units 
stronger, which is espescially noticeable on the lower bands (160, 80 and 
40).
