I tried it on ssb and cw every way I could think of. It seems when I first got the radio that on my watt meter that the needle would peak between 90 and 100 watts.

places on the web that have information on turning up the talk power on the
706. Now if you want to boost your average a good bit, I can HIGHLY
reccomend you get the www.W4RT.com speech porcessor specifically designed to
fit inside the 706's microphone. It is much superior to the built in
compressor. On DX receive, most stations tell me I am about 2 S units
stronger, which is espescially noticeable on the lower bands (160, 80 and
40).
