[ICOM] Question about the original 706

Hello all,

I have a 706Mk2G which I am happy with and am used too.  I am thinking about
the first model of 706 as a spare/second rig for in the shack.  What were
the first model 706's like when they were produced.  I have heard there were
some issues that had to be overcome with modifications to remedy the
problems.

Can someone who knows the original 706 faults and deficiencies give me a
summary of them and I will keep them in mind when looking at the second hand
unit I am considering.  It is possible that this unit has had the fixes done
already but I'm not sure at this stage.
