Rod,
Band edge beep is probably a poor choice for words as it really does not
mean the edge of the Amateur Bands or was it set able to that edge. So far
as I know all Icom Amateur HF transceivers will transmit outside of the US
amateur bands by a little bit. The band edge beep is cpu supplied when the
transmitter was tuned beyond its allowed transmit range and that would be
beyond 3.5 or 4.0 MHz on 75 meters etc.
Did you open it for 60 meters? Changing that diode matrix may have disabled
the band edge beep, but I am not aware of that happening due to my
inexperience with the 703.
I would not know why it would have quit doing the things you did unless a
ribbon cable is not seated all the way. You might look at the service
manual CPU ports and trace out just where the band edge beep originates
from you might find the problem.

busted. It works OK on 160m, but on all other bands--no beep at the edge.
Further, the rig will transmit outside the amateur bands. Anybody else
experience this problem with their 703?
