[ICOM] 756ProII Resets on Transmit - Fixed Again

Frank,

Its not as uncommon as you might think. I had a GE-MVP doing 9600 baud
packet. It generally did 35 watts out and one day I found it at about 20
watts. All sorts of things ran through my mind. Finally I tightened the
power supply binding posts with some pliers and it jumped right up to 35
watts again. The binding posts were tighter than finger tight but
apparently loose enough to cause a high resistance point and voltage drop
to the MVP. After finding that I removed the power leads, crimped some new
ring connectors on and soldered them. Got it good an tight when I
reinstalled the power leads and did not have a problem again.
I think heating and cooling of the terminals is probably the culprit. The
binding posts expand and contract a wee little bit but over time things loosen.

We all tend many times to over look the simple stuff and think some deep
buried problem has rose up to bite us. After as many years in radio and
over 100,000 phone calls while working at Icom, like you might have made
for this trouble, I still do it my self. Good Find and enjoy the rig.
