Greetings all:
First, thank you to those of you who wrote me with suggestions to solve my
problem. Once again a bad DC connection was indeed the problem.
It's deja vu...all over again. Thank goodness for the ARCHIVES. My RESET on
Transmit problem has been corrected. I've not seen this problem mentioned
on this list very often. I wonder if I'm the only person experiencing this
(now annual) problem.
In late June 2004 I posted a message to this list detailing the situation
where my 756ProII would instantly shut off and turn back on with any
attempt to transmit. Several of you implored me to check connections, fuses
and so on. The resolution was simple: Remove and Re-attach the 4 high
current DC power lead connections inside the radio from the power connector
to their respective "screw down points" inside the radio. This is done
despite the fact that there are no obvious indications of corrosion or
other bad connection problems.
I found my own messages from June 2004 and the follow-up explanation of the
solution posted on 3 July 2004 in the archive for this list. With that
reminder I disassembled the rig, performed the same operation and the rig
once again works well. I guess this will be an annual event. At least this
time I was able to pin it down to the negative (black) lead going to the PA.
I remain mystified as to why these connections fail. I keep the radio on
24/7 to maintain a more or less stable environment. There is no obvious
corrosion, discoloration, looseness or any other condition that would
contribute to an impediment to current flow.
I'm considering making a mod to these mechanical connections that involves
a slightly longer screw and star washers to keep this from being an annual
ritual.
Finally, I have printed out a copy of my July 2004 message, edited it with
a large banner explaining the solution and stapled it to the manual so that
when I have this problem again I will be able to read it quickly!!!
Perhaps others have experienced this problem and have found a solution that
lasts longer than 10 months???
In any case, I am grateful for all I have learned here and for the
helpfulness of this list's membership. Thanks to all!
