[ICOM] IC-706MKIIG And Ambient Noise

My Icom IC-706MkIIG hs always been a much noisier rig than anything else I've
compared it to...In the vehicle , there has always been a very high ambient
noise level, and I has always thought it was just the rig being very
sensitive....
I have always noted that it seems that even very strong signals were never
really that much 'out of the noise' compared to all the other rigs I've used,
even in the shack here...
It actually does seem like the gain might be set so high internally, that there
is a high level of AGC action at all times. Almost like the background noise
triggers the AGC as soon as there's an antenna connected...I just assumed that
it was due to design compromise and getting all that 'stuff' into such a small
package...

I don't have a service manual, but I'd be glad to try adjusting the internal RF
gain setting as time allows....
The serial number of my 706MkIIG is 06694....I'd be very interested in the
