[ICOM] ATU INFO PLEASE

A note of caution from a previous Drake collector. The MN2700 is not one of
their better tuners. They are plagued with several problems with the rocker
switches that select the mica caps inside for additional tuning ranges and
also the in, out, dummy, aux switches are very prone to arc over.

I have also seen several of the var. caps arc over with even 500 watts on
them. A much better tuner was the MN2000 as it was built like a Mack truck.

OK, Drake lovers, calm down, this is just what I found during my collecting
and restoration days.......

A better approach would be to tie the 7800 to a PW1 and you can do anything
you want to.

Hi Elan,

Depends what you want to do...if you are using near-resonant antennas with a
maximum VSWR excursion of 3:1, the internal autotuners of both radios are
more than adequate. Why would you want to go back to a manual tuner?

If you wish to match non-resonant wire antennas to 50 ohms, any good manual
tuner will do the job. Just remember to disable the internal autotuner when
using the manual tuner.

You may wish to check whether the MN2700 covers 30, 17 and 12 metres.

Cheers for now, 73,
