[ICOM] 756ProII: Compatible with the IC-2KL Amp?

Hi Rich,
Oops...speed-reading raced ahead of me again. The Pro2 manual does not
mention the 2KL because that product line was discontinued several years
prior to the introduction of the Pro series.
Cheers for now, 73,

Hi Rich,
The answer to your question is: absolutely yes. You will need an OPC-118
adapter (24-pin male Molex to female DIN ACC(1) and ACC(2) ) to connect the
IC-2KL control cable to the Pro2.
The 2KL manual does not mention the Pro2, because the Pro series did not yet
exist when Icom discontinued the 2KL. The PTT and ALC lines are incorporated
in the control cable; no separate PTT cable is required. IC-2KL user manuals
and schematics are downloadable here:
http://www.qsl.net/icom/manuals.html (incl. 10/12m enabling procedure)
http://www.icomclassic.com/
I recommend the AT-500 autotuner as a companion to the IC-2KL. The IC-2KL
control cable plugs into one of the 24-pin Molex sockets on the AT-500; the
cable to the exciter goes to the other socket. AT-500 documentation is
available via the links shown above.
A better way to enable/disable the 2KL is to remote the "Linear Off/On"
switch function via a small relay. This has an advantage over switching the
PTT line, in that it also powers down the amplifier's control and protection
circuits, as I recall.
