Hi Charlie,
Wow, it is really interesting to the number of responses you have received
on this topic, so here goes with my two cents worth....
I own both of them and have used them both in contesting and heavy pileups
down in the North Cooks. IMHO, the IC706 is by far the better radio. The
menu system is MUCH easier to use and getting access to change radio
settings fast is much easier with the 706. I also had audio problems with
the FT100D and in fact we had to stop using it on one trip. Last year all
five operators had 706's and, while being a small radio with minimal front
end filtering, we were able to operate MM using exterior filters.
I own both Yaesu and ICOM radios, in fact my current main radio is a
FT1000MP, however I always own five ICOM's so have no favoritism to either
brand.
Good luck,
Roger, W7VV

Ok, I need some advice here. I am going to buying one of these radios
next week and want some input (pros and cons) about them. I am strongly
leaning toward the FT-100D, but I want to hear from people about their
experiences with these radios. I am planning on using it quite a bit
mobile, as well as doing some VHF/UHF work with it from him. It will
only be a backup HF rig for me. I am going to try some VHF weak-signal
(I know the HF IF/transverter route is better, but I want to do some with
this first). So, what can you tell me about these two?
Texas Towers has them priced at the following:
706MKIIG - $739 w/ free shipping and free remote mounting kit
100D - $719 no free shipping and seperation kit is extra $69
Thanks!
