Hi Charlie,
Based on years of experience, I would not even consider the Yaesu. The Icom
is much more reliable and their service department will back you in case
there is a problem. My experience with brand Y has been the opposite, long
lead times for service and shortage of parts.
I have found the Icom people to be very friendly and helpful, the brand Y
people treat you like an idiot.
Also there is the matter of resale value, Icom's holds theirs and brand Y,
well, just look on Ebay........
Just my thoughts, your mileage may very depending on conditions in your
area....

Subject: [Icom] FT-100D vs. IC-706MKIIG
Ok, I need some advice here. I am going to buying one of these radios
next week and want some input (pros and cons) about them. I am strongly
leaning toward the FT-100D, but I want to hear from people about their
experiences with these radios. I am planning on using it quite a bit
mobile, as well as doing some VHF/UHF work with it from him. It will
only be a backup HF rig for me. I am going to try some VHF weak-signal
(I know the HF IF/transverter route is better, but I want to do some with
this first). So, what can you tell me about these two?
Texas Towers has them priced at the following:
706MKIIG - $739 w/ free shipping and free remote mounting kit
100D - $719 no free shipping and seperation kit is extra $69
Thanks!
