Subject: Serious problem IC-290E

Hallo to all on the list.

I have a serious transmitting problem with my IC-290E when trying to use =
the rig in SSB mode, both USB or LSB.
The CW and FM modes work just fine during receive and transmit.

Hope you're willing to read and possibly advise what to do.

What happens is:

- When setting the mode switch in the USB or LSB position, the "send" =
led is lightning up while I am not actually transmitting.

- Sometimes both the "send" led AND the "recv" led are lightning up =
together at the same time after setting the mode switch to USB or LSB. =
In this situation there is NO receive.

- Wf I push the PTT on the IC-HM10 microfone a strong carrier is audible =
on a second 2 meter receiver, but when talking No modulation is to be =
heard.

- After pushing the PTT switch a few time (up and down) the "send" led =
fades out and the "recv" led stays on. In this situation the receiver is =
working properly again.

- Also a carrier is audible for about 1 a 2 seconds while switching from =
FM or CW to USB or LSB and than the carrier is gone again.

I suppose the carrier comes from the osc. There is no led indication of =
any RF output in that case.
The rig give full 10 Watts RF output on FM and CW and the output ledbar =
is fully lightning.

Has this problem something to do with bad soldering contacts on one of =
the boards or would it be one or more defective diodes?

The IC 290 is in original condition and had always functioned 100% until =
recently.

I have no technical background and surely hope one of you can give me =
some hints for resolving the fault.

Anyway, quite a story and many thanks in advance for the advise.
