[Icom] 706 freq problem

About a week ago my original model 706, purchased new in 1996 by me, was fine. 
A couple of days ago I noticed the Maritime Mobile Service Net on 14300 was on
14298.98.  Odd.  Prompted me to do a little checking.  Ah, WWV was on 14999.24.
 Hmmm.

I don't have the service manual but I do have the schematics.  First suspect
would be the 30.000 crystal, CR275.  I can't recall having seen a crystal
suddenly change like that, usually they tend to drift.  

Without a service monitor or other highly accurate receiver I can't tell if the
30.000 crystal is on and it is just the display that is off (dependent upon the
crystal for the display, a 9.8304 MHZ crystal)  Hopefully I can calibrate an
analog receiver to tell me if the 30 MHZ crystal is off or not. 

However, right now I'm soliciting comments as to 'probable cause.'  Such
comments are welcomed.
