Is the IC-7400 different than the IC-746? If so, how, does the 7400 not
have FM?
There must be some advantage to the 7400, or else Diamond wouldn't dig for
diamonds...

If you are not going to be using 2M FM but rather, SSB the IC 7400 is a
great choice. That is the European version of the 746 PRO.
It is a great weak signal low VHF rig.

i am looking for an all mode HF/6/2 base rig. many have suggested the
706mkIIG
and for the money it seems like a great deal - but i'm not going to be using
it
as a mobile rig. i was thinking about getting a used 746 since it is geared
more toward a base rig application plus it has a built in tuner.
anyone care to offer some thoughts on these radios?
