If you are not going to be using 2M FM but rather, SSB the IC 7400 is a
great choice. That is the European version of the 746 PRO.

It is a great weak signal low VHF rig.

Subject: [Icom] icom base rig

i am looking for an all mode HF/6/2 base rig. many have suggested the
706mkIIG
and for the money it seems like a great deal - but i'm not going to be using
it
as a mobile rig. i was thinking about getting a used 746 since it is geared
more toward a base rig application plus it has a built in tuner.

anyone care to offer some thoughts on these radios?
