Larry, I think I can answer at least a couple of questions, even though I=
'm
using a 746.=0D
=0D
Your number 1 question, about the CW Keying:=0D
=0D
My 746 has to be in Break In, or Full Break in to key the transmitter whe=
n
using CW. On the 746, the button is the same button you use for VOX in S=
SB.
It toggles through off, "BK-IN" and "F BK-IN" in the CW mode.=0D
=0D
Your question number 2 may have been answered in question 1.=0D
=0D
Your question 3 is using a Heil Mic with the Icom. Icom microphones use
electret condenser cartridges. The Heil HC-4 and HC-5 use Dynamic element=
s
which have a hard time driving Icom radios. Heil also makes a special
microphone for Icom radios. Here is the web site.=0D
=0D
http://www.heilsound.com/icm.htm=0D
=0D
It uses a special electret condenser cartridge. I have not used this
microphone, so I can't say one way or another on how well it would work f=
or
me. =0D
=0D
I use a regular HC-5 headset here with the 746. Using Bob's settings of
having the processor on, and set to approximately halfway, setting the Mi=
c
Gain on the 746 around 1/2 to 3/4 on. The DSP setting in the menu is at +=
3.
This works well for me.=0D
=0D
With that said, I personally use the HC-5 headset just for contesting. F=
or
ragchewing, I use an Icom SM 20, which I don't use the processor, and the
mic gain is set much lower. This is an expensive microphone, but well wor=
th
the money IMHO. =0D
=0D
WITH ALL THIS SAID, I WANT TO ALSO SAY THAT NONE OF THIS MAY BE TRUE WITH
YOUR RADIO! But then again, ALL of it may be true, or at least close. =0D

Subject: [Icom] New Pro2 & CW question=0D
=0D
Just got my Pro2 today. Haven't had a whole lot of=0D
time to get used to it, though I did play with a=0D
friend's Pro for a week back in the fall while he was=0D
on vacation.=0D
=0D
A couple of questions about CW operation:=0D
1. My paddle (connected in front) and straight key=0D
(connected to the rear jack) will key the sidetone=0D
when set for CW operation, but they will not key the=0D
rig to put it on the air unless the TRANSMIT button is=0D
depressed. This can't be right, as I can't be=0D
continually pressing a button to operate CW. The Pro=0D
did not do that. The TRANSMIT button never had to be=0D
used. What am I missing?=0D
=0D
2. How do I get full QSK operation? Is that somewhere=0D
in a menu, or is it that little BK IN DELAY button?=0D
=0D
3. SSB question: The included hand mike seems to have=0D
fantastic audio as per the default set up, according=0D
to local Pro owners, but the Heil in either wide or=0D
narrow position is quite lacking. I assume that when I=0D
adjust the XMIT audio, I can fix it so the Heil sounds=0D
good.=0D
=0D
Yes, I am reading the manual, too. TNX for any=0D
suggestions.=0D
