Hi Larry,
To answer your questions:
1 & 2: RX/TX switching and CW break-in: (Pro2 user manual, p.5)
The BK-IN DELAY pot adjusts the semi-break-in hang time.
Select CW mode, then BK-IN softkey -> FULL. This will activate QSK, and
cause the radio to switch from RX to TX the instant you depress the Morse
key. (The TRANSMIT button must be out.)
3. You may wish to try these settings with the Heil GoldLine mic:
COMP-ON MID (Compression on, occupied bandwidth MID = 2.4 kHz)
TX equalisation: Bass -2, Treble = +3
MIC GAIN control at 12 o'clock
COMP control at 11 o'clock (for 3 to 5 dB compression on voice peaks, as
indicated on COMP meter scale)
Enjoy your new Pro2!

Subject: [Icom] New Pro2 & CW question
Just got my Pro2 today. Haven't had a whole lot of
time to get used to it, though I did play with a
friend's Pro for a week back in the fall while he was
on vacation.
A couple of questions about CW operation:
1. My paddle (connected in front) and straight key
(connected to the rear jack) will key the sidetone
when set for CW operation, but they will not key the
rig to put it on the air unless the TRANSMIT button is
depressed. This can't be right, as I can't be
continually pressing a button to operate CW. The Pro
did not do that. The TRANSMIT button never had to be
used. What am I missing?
2. How do I get full QSK operation? Is that somewhere
in a menu, or is it that little BK IN DELAY button?
3. SSB question: The included hand mike seems to have
fantastic audio as per the default set up, according
to local Pro owners, but the Heil in either wide or
narrow position is quite lacking. I assume that when I
adjust the XMIT audio, I can fix it so the Heil sounds
good.
Yes, I am reading the manual, too. TNX for any
suggestions.
