Hi Bert,
Mounting an additional battery in the truck would lead to a
lot of work revolving around placing it in a airsealed
"strongbox" and venting that box to the outside so as not to
get explosive hydrogen gas into your truck when the battery is
charging.
(Might be a neat way to open your trunk lid, but probably
would happen at the wrong time -- grin).

What I did was to route an extremely large gauge wire (AWG 2)
from the battery (and immediately behind the battery through a
50 amp fuse, then an on/off relay) all the way back to where
the radio itself was to be located. My goal was zero voltage
drop in the wire when xmitting. In my case the radio is
located in the rear most portion of the vehicle. If I was
rigging a sedan I'd have put the radio itself in the truck.
Shouldn't be too hard to run a large gauge wire under the
vehicle to the trunk. Remember to protect the wire by running
it through something like an old garden hose where it can be
exposed to road gravel and other hazards. (That's why the 50
amp fuse, BTW. A short to ground through a 2 gauge wire
would certainly be impressive.)

> Hi,
> I would like to go mobile with my ICOM 706 MKIIG.Ideally I
realize that ideally I should hard wire the rig directly to
the battery.I have "explored" the firewall of my 2000 Taurus
sedan and have conluded that getting the harness to the
battery appears to be no easy task.

battery etc.
