[Icom] Headset with mic

I like my Heil pro-set for listening and I have changed out the microphone
boom and element to an electret I filched from a Yaesu YS-1 headset. And I
use it with my 765 and 756PROII with good audio reports. I believe the YS-2
is still available and probably uses the same microphone and receiver
elements.
I tried a couple of "hi-fi" headsets, an inexpensive Radio Shack set and my
Koss PRO/4AA and I found the high frequency hiss from the 765 was
objectionable. The proset seems to roll off the highs so they do not bother
me.
I used the YS-1 (single earphone) headset for contests and every once in
awhile I would get an unsolicited favorable audio report. But I did not
like to listen to the single earphone so that is why I modified the pro-set.
I am primarily a cw contester/dxer now but I still dabble with ssb when I
have too.
Parts are available for your pro-set from Heil and if the audio level is
really too low for you can pick up an adapter cable from Radio Shack to plug
the headphones into the speaker output jack. This is a trick we use when
operating with FT-1000MP's.
And then Jim Neiger, N6TJ/ZD8Z recommends a FOSTEX T-20 headset. Jim is a
world class contester and can still hang in there for a 48 hour contest.
And if you decide to dispose of the pro-set.....
