[Icom] Have High SWR on Ham Sticks

Hi John,

I have run into the same problem with Ham Sticks. It is because so much =
of the antenna is near metal. In order for the antenna to work properly, =
it must be mounted away from any vertical metal surfaces. My wife has =
the same problem with a Subaru Legacy wagon. I have the antenna mounted =
on a ball just under the left rear window. I can get reasonable SWR on =
20-10 meters, but 40 and 80 won't get below 3:1 without a tuner. You may =
have to have a bar welded to the frame to bring the antenna further away =
from the vehicle surfaces.

Of course, the easiest cure is an auto tuner. I put an AT-50 in my =
wife's care to go with her TS-50 and now she can operate on all of the =
bands with no problems.

  Hi=20
  I have an 706 MKll. Just bought off a dealer used. It also has been at =
Icom=20
  to get check out! I have a license plate mount on my 96 Voyager. I =
have=20
  grounded the hatchback door hinge and the plate mount. Also I ran a =
ground to=20
  the frame! I still have high SWR on the ham sticks 6M, 10M, & 20M have =
a SWR=20
  of 2 on 20 meters. They are all new ham sticks too.=20
  Besides buying a tuner is there anything I can do?
