John,

Something I have not heard Hams talking about is adding a capacitor
at the base of the antenna. Using the MFJ SWR Analyzer,tune the Ham Stick
for the best swr that you can get. Put a variable capacitor of about
350 pf at the base to ground.  Across the coax.Tune the cap for best swr and
the whip on the antenna. Should get 1:1 easy. Check the vari cap on the MFJ
for value (do not turn it) fund a cap to the nearest value and install it on
the base of your antenna. Use a switch for more caps  and bands.
