Sean,

Here are some excerpts from the "Icom Oldies but Goodies" page on my site.
http://www.qsl.net/ab4oj/icom/oldicom.html

IC-738 - $650 to $750 - excellent DDS synthesiser, fast internal ATU, but
poor filter selection and lousy audio notch.
IC-736 - $800 to $900 - an IC-738 with 6m and internal mains PSU.
IC-756 - $1200 to $1350, depending on filters - a very good deal at current
used prices. LCD display, spectrum scope. Excellent performer.

The price of a second-hand IC-756 is probably down to $1000 by now (at least
in the U.S.) In my view, you would be a lot better off looking for an
IC-756, preferably with a serial number higher than 2000.

Best 73,

Subject: [Icom] IC-736

I am thinking of purchasing a secondhand IC-736 as a second rig but
particularly for 50MHz. Any reviews I have seen have been good. I did see
someone on the UK six-metre group page complaining of power supply noise on
50MHz - the rig has an in-built mains power supply. Any comments on this or
on the rig in general and particularly its 50MHz performance would be
appreciated. Off list if you judge that this is not of general interest.
Thanks
