Hi all,
I have a 706MKIIG and use the stock mike, a light weight Heil headset with
boom mic and a SM-8 with it. The stock mike always got good reports from
people I know, when used from base or mobile. The Heil worked great on my
last trip to NC, very good audio reports. On the return trip, the Heil
kept getting rf into it and would cause problems with the radio turning
off. I tried coiling up the coax/mic cord/seperation cable without any
success. Only had pieces of wood dowel to use for that. I have not tried
to use the setup in the vehicle since then. Also with the Heil, I had to
turn the mic gain (radio) down to the lowest position when using it on 2
meters and 440 FM. The SM-8 works great, but I had to turn the gain (on
the mic) almost to off, it appears to be a pretty hot mike.
