I use an in-line pad to drop the headphone audio down to microphone level
to feed my laptop (also a Sony Vaio). The pad looks like an adapter, but
it's 1/8" mono in and out, and drops the level about 40 dB. I think I got
it at Radio Shack.

It works well feeding headphone audio from my Icom 756 (Original) to my
laptop to copy PSK-31. I can keep the AF out of the radio at a fairly
normal range, and the audio input settings on the laptop in the normal range.
