Another potential enclosure material is square PVC fence post.  I have 
some pieces left over from a fence installation that measure about 3.25" 
inside; enough to just get most of my hand in with a PCB.  1/8" thick 
walls machine well.  Just need to cap the ends. (I'm torn between 
painted scrap pine and patina copper post caps).  Even if you don't have 
a fence project, they're $13 per 6', $20 per 100" at the local Lowe's.  
Still not bad.
