Hawaii Hams,
I spoke with Bob Schneider on the phone this evening after receiving a
report from Chuck, N6NCT, regarding Bill 66, the cell phone bill on the
Big Island of Hawaii.
1) John KH7T spoke with his Council member, and briefed him on the
amendment in the Honolulu Bill 4, that included an exemption for amateur
radio and passed on April 22nd. John reports that his Council person
will submit an amendment for the Big Island Bill at the next meeting.
2) Action on Bill 66 was deferred at the April 21st PSPRC meeting to
the May 19th meeting. For the Big Island, bills can pass Council on the
second reading, which could happen as soon as June 2nd. Stu, KH7DX will
continue to monitor the progress of the Bill.
ARRL Headquarters has been updated on this status.
I've updated the status on the web page.

With this report, this substantially concludes the legislation activity
for cell phone bills at this time. I'll leave that page up and update
it on occassion until the Big Island bill situation goes to completion.
Next year in the State Legislature, we may expect activity regarding a
State-level cell phone legislation, at which point, we'll need ALL
Islands to work with their legislators in the House and Senate to
provide legislation favorable to amateur radio.
