[Heathkit] Heathkit SA 2060. Tuner

Well, I have to disagree with you, Mark.I find the switch on my 2060A to be very flimsy. Having taken my tuner apart more than once, and having looked at that switch closely, I really don't like it, and I treat it with great care.IMHO, the contacts are really much too small to handle a full 1500 watts, especially if the SWR is high. In addition, the long switch-shaft feels flimsy. You are correct about the detent: it is not integral with the switch, and Janis is wrong about that.Even so, I have found other matters on her site which are useful, informative, and entertaining. Getting back to the SA-2060A, I plan to install a heavy-duty external antenna switch to use instead of that switch. I make such switches out of the ones that were used in the BC-191/375 tuning units. One can still buy those switches, NIB, from Fair Radio Sales for around $3.00, and they make superb 4 or 5 position antenna switches. A small aluminum box, a handful of SO-239s, and an hour or two is about all it takes. vy 73 for now, MarkKen W7EKBSent via my Samsung Galaxy, an AT&T 4G LTE smartphone

Tuner Hi KenI have to disagree with you.  I've owned a pair of SA-2060's for about 15 years and our club has one.   There is nothing fragile about the switch.AB2RA's website says "
If you operate the switch often, it will wear out the detents or contacts as they wipe off the plating"There are no detents on the switch to "wipe off the plating".   The detents are in a separate module attached to the front panel.  As far as wiping off the plating of the switch wafers (not contacts),  I've never heard of that happening.    The switch is robust and I can't see why it would wear out faster than any other ceramic switch.  I've had to  remove the switch from the sensor module to replace the SO-239 on the club' unit and on one of mine.   Not fun, but pretty straightforward. 73 Mark K3MSBOn Mon, Sep 27, 2021 at 10:42 PM Kenneth G. Hello, Dan:

I own and use, heavily, a 2060A.

Probably the reason your switch is missing is that it is very, very fragile, and can be extremely
easily broken.

You may wish to visit Janis' AB2RA page here about this unit:

I am extremely careful with the switch in my 2060A, but I AM going to stop using it completely
by using an external switch.
