[Heathkit] Frozen bandswitch

I recently bought a Mohican.  The seller said it had a frozen bandswitch.  I 
took the shaft coupler off and tried to turn it with pliers.  It trys to 
turn the front section (the entire section) and not just the shaft.  I 
loosened the nut holding the bushing but that did not help.  I tried to turn 
the shaft from the back but it was trying to turn the entire front piece 
(the piece with the bearings and against a false front panel.  Has anyone 
else run into this kind of problem on any Heathkit gear?  What did you have 
to do to get the shaft turning freely again?
