[Heathkit] Sb101 dial disaster

The way I do it is with the nut loose I pull it all the way up then push it
in as far as it will go.Then I let it drop all the way down.
Next I very carefully lift it up with a little pressure against the mating
ring until I feel it clear the ring. At that pint I feel for the mating with
the ring and apply downward pressure on the shaft. When I get them to mate I
tighten the nut while holding downward pressure on the shaft. It will take
several attempts to get it right. But once done I have never had another
problem with it.
A few years ago the copper drive disk in my SB-301 fractured. I tried
soldering it back as one expert suggested. But that did not work. So I
bought one from the guy that used to repair Heathkits. That one is in my
SB-301 right now. But I bought TWO more spares on eBay.
