[Heathkit] DX-60 Repair Adventure, or DX-60 only Works on its Side

I have encountered the same problems with ground connections.
I have a VF-1 that would not work correctly and when I started checking
resistance between two different ground connections, I would find anywhere
from 1/2 to 2-3 ohms between the connections.
I decided to just strip the vfo and start from scratch with all new caps,
etc.
Also, I am looping all the ground points together, making sure all solder
joints are good and replacing all silver micas and resistors.
Hopefully, I can finish by this weekend and with my newly checked-out DX-40,
be on the air on 40 CW and/or AM.
Also, I understand that to make this rig work on 'side' band, I must turn it
on it's side. Do I have to take it out of the cabinet to do this?
