Ken, Check to see if the builder of the set mixed up the ALC pot for the
ANTI-TRIP or if wires that are close to each other have a bad spot on them
causing a short.
This sound like a wiring problem to me but.
You might also consider putting the original 6EA8 back in and see if the
problem still continues.
Does the 6EA8 have its shield on it and is the ground pin on the can
grounded and making good contact with the shield?
Also make sure that both sides of the tube V1A and V1B are good with no
interaction.
Check the wiring on the tube socket look at the schematic and check
connections and trace on boards for broken connections.
Put a flash light on the component side of the board and from the other side
look for a broken trace.
It will show up as a black line.
All these Heaths's are hard to work on until you get the mistakes out that
the original builder made.
Many problems can be traced to bad grounds between bulkheads and boards.
Back off all the screws and make them tight again.
Check those little post that wires go into.
Re-heat them.
They sometimes look good and the wire is tight but solder has gone bad.
Keep working on it and you will find it.
I once spent two years on and off to find an intermittent with a poor solder
joint in the power supply.
Good luck,
Dan/N4VET
