Harry:

The PTT design that I use operates the keying line, not the HV, though 
the relay also disconnects and grounds the screen of the final when in 
receive. This keeps the final tube from generating "diode noise" which 
can show up in the receiver. It also keeps the modulator from causing 
the tube to draw current in the presence of stray sounds in the shack 
while receiving.
