Hi:
During the process of rebuilding Heathkit's AT-1 transmitter, I noticed that one can power the VF-1 VFO from a power socket at the back of the xmtr. However, there exist no VFO input to the transmitter except by plugging in an FT-243 type plug into the xtal socket. While this is all fine, I really like a "cleaner" method of VFO input to the AT-1 without punching any extra holes.

I propose to input the VF-1's rf output to the AT-1 in the followiing manner:

-Connect a 4" piece of RG-174 from the AT-1's vfo socket empty pins directly to the crystal socket solder tabs.
-Running another piece of RF-174 from the VF-1's power plug through the shell and on the RF output connector of the VF-1.

Here are my concerns:
-What are the problems associated with leaving the inboard RG-174 and going back to xtal control? This is a 4" piece of coax and I think I may experience some frequency shift of the xtal
-Should I be concerned about hum pick-up?

Let me know your thoughts and thanks. Cal, N6KYR.
