Nonsense +ACE-  Just follow the instructions in the manual for mating the
two together and they work just fine.. Hell they were designed to work
together.

I have owned several pairs of these fine radios... it takes a little
patience to adjust the carrier osc in the reciever to match the load
presented by the transmitter.

Part of the trick is using the correct cable.. and makeing sure that
cable and the rca connectors is in good shape.  It is BEST to use the
specified type of cable.
That will have the correct capacitance per foot and the right impedance.
However, I have even gotten away with using audio cable. You must adjust
the radio with the cable you intend to use.. and you should mark your
cables..

This will give you the unconditional stability the rigs are capable of.

Note... most SB-401 were sold without the optional Heterodyne Oscillator
Crystal Pack... so the ONLY way they will work is with a companion
reciever.

When in doubt.. read the manuals.
