[HCRA] Change this list to Yahoo?

Howdy all,

I think I mentioned some of this to KK1W off-list but should probably
put them out to the group as well. I am no fan of Yahoo but here are
a few reasons why I like the idea of moving over.

Although Yahoo Groups adds features to the traditional mailing list
(photos, uploads, etc.), it still remains a traditional mailing list
in that it provides subscription through user opt-in, has the option
of multiple admins, message moderation options, digest options, etc.
I think those features are just as important as the new features.

For reasons unknown to me, a many goups in amateur radio have decided
to use Yahoo Groups for it's mailing lists. Just about every model of
radio out there has its own mailing list. Recently I've used the
rockmite and softrock mailing lists and the participation is really
good. There are also several WMA mailing lists related to radio on
Yahoo Groups. People can still just subscribe and receive emails as
they're posted to the list or if they want to use Yahoo Groups more
extensively, they can use the website to access HCRA + other groups.

I also agree that we should look into using social networking sites
(e.g. Facebook) as a tool to get the word out about HCRA and amateur
radio, but I think it should be in addition to a traditional mailing
list. I would be willing to step up a Facebook page for HCRA and be
an admin.

Also if people are worried about the difficulty of using Yahoo, Maybe,
once it's setup we could do a 10 min demo for people at one of the
meetings or an online video (not as sassy as the google video)
explaining how to get setup?

The one downfall that I see with Yahoo is that the search feature for
individual messages on the yahoo site is horrible. On a list with
lots of traffic it can be a real pain. I don't see that being a
problem with the HCRA list :)
