Wondering what to do this weekend? How about a little contesting?

The New England QSO party starts tomorrow, Saturday, at 4:00 PM. This is a
fun contest that besides being a pretty ‘laid back’ event also offers you an
opportunity to be the sought after DX! Stations from around the country (and
the world too) will be trying to work all 67 New England counties for the
grand prize – a lobster dinner. All you need to do is get on the air and
they will be calling YOU! How cool is that?

Not really into contesting but looking for a WAS (Worked All States) award.
NEQP offers a chance to bag a few of those rare states to help you toward
you goal.

If that’s not enough incentive how about a nice plaque. There are many
available but the one for ‘High Score Hampden County’ is probably the one
most easily achievable. All you need to do is be the highest scoring, single
operator station in Hampden County to add some new wall décor to your shack.
And you get to have some fun doing it at the same time – good stuff!

Still not convinced? You can aggregate your score with the scores of other
HCRA members for the club competition. Last year we finished 3rd overall in
the club competition and the two above us are contest clubs, not bad for a
little radio club from Hampden County? Maybe with your additional score this
year we can do even better.

If I still haven’t succeeded in getting you excited about this weekend’s
activity then take at look at the NEQP website at http://www.neqp.org
<http://www.neqp.org/> and I’m sure you’ll be firing up the rig soon.

HCRA will have both of our club calls on the air again this year. W1NY will
be operated by Ed, KB1NWH (last year’s plaque winner) and I’ll be QRV with
the WB1Z call. Look for us on the air and give us some points!

Sunspots? We don’t need no stinkin’ sunspots! There’s plenty of fun to be
had without worrying about what is happening on the sun. Just get on the air
and have fun.

Thanks as always for your interest in amateur radio and your support of HCRA
activities – it makes all the difference.
