Hello to all..
..Major Coastal Storm Still Expected to Impact the Region. Still a Level
of Uncertainty in the Models for all of the specifics on what the storm
will bring for all areas..
..A Winter Storm Warning is now in effect from Midnight to 7 PM Monday
for Northern Connecticut, North-Central Rhode Island and Hampden,
Southern Worcester, Western Norfolk, Northern Bristol and Western
Plymouth Counties of Massachusetts for 8-14 of snow..
..A Winter Storm Watch remains in effect late tonight through Monday
Evening for Southern New Hampshire, the remainder of Rhode Island
including Block Island, and the remainder of Massachusetts except for
Cape Cod and the Islands for late Sunday Night through Monday Evening..
..A High Wind Watch is now in effect for Cape Cod and the Islands late
tonight through Monday Evening. Winds may reach wind advisory levels or
High Wind Warning criteria on Cape Cod and the Islands with winds
potentially reaching Wind Advisory criteria in other parts of Eastern New
England..
..Any coastal flood threat appears to be minor with splashover possible
but moderate coastal flooding is currently not expected though this will
continue to be monitored..
..SKYWARN Activation with Ops at NWS Taunton likely before daybreak
Monday Morning lasting through Monday Evening..
Models still show some differences in the exact track but nonetheless a
major coastal storm is still expected to impact Southern New England. A
couple of the most reliable models show a track near or just east of Cape
Cod Monday while other operational and reliable models show a track
closer to the 40 N/70 W benchmark or just east of there. This has an
impact on the amount of winds and precipitation type and to some extent
the amount of precipitation over portions of Eastern New England.
A Winter Storm Warning is now in effect from Midnight to 7 PM Monday for
Northern Connecticut, North-Central Rhode Island and Hampden, Southern
Worcester, Western Norfolk, Northern Bristol and Western Plymouth
Counties of Massachusetts. In this area, 8-14 of snow is expected with
snowfall rates of 1 per hour or more possible. Poor visibilities are
likely with the heavy snowfall rate and the possibility of some level of
wind over North-Central Rhode Island and Southeast Massachusetts.
A Winter Storm Watch remains in effect for late tonight through Monday
Evening for Southern New Hampshire, the remainder of Rhode Island
including Block Island, and the remainder of Massachusetts except for
Cape Cod and the Islands for late Sunday Night through Monday Evening. In
this area, there still is some uncertainty of snowfall amounts in
northern and western areas depending on the track of the low being closer
to Cape Cod versus the benchmark and for southern and eastern areas there
is uncertainty on any precipitation type mix or dry slotting that could
occur with a low track closer to Cape Cod versus a track toward the
benchmark which would result in less mixed precipitation, higher amounts
of precipitation as well as the potential for more wind. Future model
runs may be starting to lock in on a solution which will necessitate
changes to warnings and advisories across this Winter Storm Watch area.
A High Wind Watch has been posted for Cape Cod and the Islands for late
tonight through Monday Evening. The potential exists for winds to either
hit Wind Advisory levels or High Wind Warning levels in this area. This
will be dependent on the track and intensity of the coastal storm. Other
parts of Eastern New England may reach Wind Advisory criteria depending
on the track and intensity of the coastal storm.
Coastal flooding is expected to be minor at this time with splashover
possible in the most vulnerable locations. Moderate coastal flooding is
not expected but this will continue to be monitored.
SKYWARN Activation with Ops at NWS Taunton will be likely Monday shortly
before daybreak lasting through Monday Evening barring any significant
deviation in the storm track and intensity. Future coordination messages
will fine-tune this timeframe. The next coordination message will be
issued by 1130 PM Sunday Evening. Below are the Winter Storm
Warning/Watch statement, High Wind Watch statement, and Hazardous Weather
Outlook from NWS Taunton:
Respectfully Submitted,
