Models have gotten into better agreement on the overall powerful coastal
storm scenario for Southern New England. There still could be some
deviation in what occurs if the storm is less intense then expected or
the track deviates from the current one which places the system near the
40 N/70 W benchmark and then out into the Canadian Maritimes but models
overall are in better agreement.

A Heavy Snow Warning is now in effect for Northern Connecticut, Western,
Central and Northeast Massachusetts north of Boston through the North
Shore and Southern New Hampshire. Snow will start between 1-4 AM from
southwest to northeast and become heavy at times with snow falling at the
rate of 1-2” per hour possibly higher for a time in the warning area with
total snowfall of 8-14” with isolated higher amounts possible. Along the
coast, winds of 20-30 MPH with gusts to 45 MPH may cause some blowing and
drifting of the snow.

A Winter Storm Warning is now in effect for the Greater Boston
Metropolitan area and Norfolk County through Southeast Massachusetts and
all of Rhode Island except for Bristol and Newport Counties of Rhode
Island from Midnight through 7 PM Monday for 6-12” of snow with isolated
higher amounts. Along coastal areas, winds of 20-30 MPH with gusts to 45
MPH may cause some blowing and drifting of the snow in this area. The
snow will be a bit heavier and wetter in the Winter Storm Warning area.

A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect from Midnight through 7 PM Monday
for South Coastal Massachusetts and Bristol County, RI. In this area, the
snow will mix with sleet and rain holding down snowfall amounts but 2-6”
of snow is expected in this area with the 2” amounts closest to the coast
and the 6” amounts furthest away from the coast.

For Cape Cod and the Islands, precipitation will fall largely as rain but
may have a period of snow during the storm. Snowfall totals in this area
will be 3” or less. A Wind Advisory is in effect for Cape Cod and the
Islands from 1 AM-7 PM Monday as winds of 20-30 MPH with gusts to 50 MPH
are likely in this area.

Minor Coastal Flooding is possible at the time of the Monday Afternoon
high tide across north and east facing beaches due to the strong
Northeast winds along the coast but a moderate coastal flood event is
still not anticipated. This will continue to be monitored.

After consultation with NWS Taunton, SKYWARN Activation with Ops at NWS
Taunton will commence between 6-630 AM for snowfall, wind and any damage
reports. Activation is expected to last through evening. Barring a
significant change to the SKYWARN Activation/storm status, this will be
the last email on this coastal storm. Below are the Heavy Snow/Winter
Storm Warning/Winter Weather Advisory statement, Wind Advisory statement
and the Hazardous Weather Outlook from NWS Taunton:
